Descrizione del progetto

Edoardo Sanguineti (1930-2010), d'ora in poi ES, è stato attore, autore di libretti musicali, critico, deputato, docente universitario, giornalista, lessicografo, poeta, regista, romanziere, sceneggiatore, scrittore di teatro e
traduttore. Questa intermedialità costituisce il presupposto di un progetto che si propone di sondare e rendere la complessità di un intero periodo culturale.
Il progetto SanguiNetwork (d’ora in poi SN) si pone come obiettivo la creazione di un knowledge graph (d’ora in poi KG), vale a dire uno strumento agile e innovativo che permetta di indagare la modernità e la
post-modernità a partire dall’archivio esteso di uno dei protagonisti.
Tale progetto richiede la collaborazione di esperti di area umanistica e di area informatica che organizzeranno il lavoro partendo dal precedente progetto Sanguineti’s Wunderkammer (d’ora in poi SW, Stato dell’arte,
UniTo1), grazie al quale sono stati finora raccolti 80000 documenti. Al fine di raccogliere un numero almeno tre volte superiore di documenti, occorre che gli esperti di area umanistica provvedano alla catalogazione dei
seguenti fondi:
1) fondo di inediti consistente in appunti, carteggi, dattiloscritti, diari, fotografie, manoscritti per un totale di circa 20m lineari, in comodato d’uso al Centro Studi ES (www.centrosanguineti.unito.it);
2) fondo lessicografico inedito di ES custodito presso l’Università di Salerno;
3) 50% del fondo bibliografico di ES non catalogato, in comodato d’uso presso la Biblioteca Universitaria di Genova.
In parallelo, gli esperti dell’area informatica si porranno come obiettivo: definizione dell’ontologia computazionale e progettazione della mappa digitale del KG, con le seguenti caratteristiche:
1) struttura su rete semantica espandibile;
2) connessione con risorse esterne preesistenti che possano arricchire la conoscenza a disposizione del sistema;
3) capacità di rispondere a una gamma crescente di interrogazioni.
Così costruito, SN:
1) documenterà il periodo storico-culturale che va dalla seconda metà del Novecento ai primi dieci anni del nuovo millennio;
2) sarà utilizzato come potente mezzo di public engagement, per diffondere la conoscenza di prodotti artistici, cinematografici e letterari rilevanti nella modernità e nella post-modernità;
3) produrrà una rappresentazione semanticamente ricca, accessibile ed elaborabile via software delle connessioni fra concetti, luoghi e opere che caratterizzano il XX secolo;
4) rappresenterà uno strumento digitale innovativo, che potrà essere adottato come modello da altri archivi.
SN fornirà materiali per due mostre multimediali fisicamente collocate presso la Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria di Torino ma con applicazione web che ne renderà possibile una completa visita virtuale

Edoardo Sanguineti (1930-2010), henceforth ES, was one of the most acute intellectual of the 20th century and worked in every field of contemporary culture: poet, novelist, literary critic, author of theatrical texts and musical librettos, lexicographer, translator, journalist, screenwriter and actor. The multiplicity of his interests, which makes intermediality a constitutive feature, reflects the complexity and offers an admirable synthesis of the last century.
The SanguiNetwork project, henceforth SN, has two objectives:
- to catalog and to insert in Sanguineti’s Wunderkammer archival database, henceforth SW, the result of a previous project, a substantial core of documents (correspondence, notebooks, unpublished typescripts, for a total of approximately 15 linear meters) recently granted by the heirs on loan for use to the ES Research Center (www.centrosanguineti.unito.it), to conclude the cataloging, suspended for several years, of the bibliographic collection kept at the University Library of Genoa, to bring out the rich important fund kept at the University of Salerno
- to create, starting from SW, a knowledge graph, henceforth KG, which represents the deep interconnection between ES's work and the reflection on the cultural and political season of his time, reproducing and refining the method used by the author himself in a theatrical performance and a multimedia exhibition. In this way the project aims to offer a faithful portrait not so much of the «testa in tempesta», as ES liked to define himself, but of the theoretical, literary and artistic elaboration of an entire historical period SN will have the following characteristics:
- it will produce a semantically rich representation, accessible and developable through software of the connections between works, places and concepts that characterized the last century
- it will form the core of an expandable semantic network, proposing a model that can also be used for other authors
- it will be specified in terms of a computational ontology in order to respond to a wide range of queries and offer original exploration paths;
- it will be connected to pre-existing external resources which will thus be able to enrich the knowledge available to the system
- it will be aimed at scientific use and will aim to provide an innovative tool to investigate the 20th century and modernity through the filter of one of their most attentive and acute interpreters
- it will also constitute a powerful means of public engagement, useful for approaching the work of all the literary, cinematographic and artistic authors of which ES became the vehicle and interpreter, always from a 20th
century perspective: from Guinizzelli to Pasolini, from Ejzenstejn to Von Trier, from Carol Rama to Luciano Berio.
The project will end with end with two interactive exhibit physically located at the National University Library of Turin but with a web application that will make a complete virtual visit possible.
